IGES and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI ) Sign MOU to Strengthen Japan-India Climate Cooperation and Implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement

On 24 February 2026, the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).*

Under this MoU, both IGES and FICCI will build further momentum for collaborative decarbonisation efforts among the Japan-India business communities. The partnership aims to facilitate expanding support for, and collaborative action on, advanced low-carbon technologies, climate finance and capacity building in India, as well as working towards respective and collective decarbonisation goals and sustainable industrial development objectives. IGES and FICCI provide platforms for dialogue as well as knowledge sharing and co-creation, through industrial support, collaborative industry-policy research and publications.

At the signing ceremony, representatives from IGES and FICCI expressed their strong commitment and high expectations for their collaboration going forward. Abha Seth, Assistant Secretary General of FICCI, emphasised that IGES and FICCI have already built a relationship over four years through project implementation and other activities, laying the groundwork for future endeavours. She expressed confidence that this collaboration, with its sights firmly set on a shared aim, will be a success and he looked forward to IGES's role as a change agent.

*JCM partnership between Japan and India was agreed as a part of the India–Japan Joint Vision for the Next Decade, signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the former Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in August 2025.
